A Child Set Free

I was so exasperated one day. I caught one of my children lying again. I’m not going to name the child nor the gender, I’d never do that. Let me just say this child lied about everything. Always. Every time.
So when I found this child in another lie, I said, “let’s go sit down, I want to talk with you.” So we sat together on the livingroom couch. I asked why the constant lies. The answer? “Mum, I don’t know.”
What was behind this was what I suspected to be spiritual in nature. When there’s a character failing without any explanation behind it, I’ve known to suspect a spiritual cause, especially if the person has no idea why they do what they do, and has no control over it.
So I said, “ok, if there’s no reason, if you truly don’t know, then I suspect it might be a lying spirit. I have the authority here and I’m going to command that spirit to leave. Is that ok with you?” “Yes.”
I told that spirit to leave in the name of Jesus. The child gave a huge yawn. And I never, ever in all the years since, have known that child to ever lie again.
